Homeschool Art: Teaching Patience and Creativity Through Painting & Watercolors
Today, I had the joy of guiding my girls through the creative process—teaching them not just how to make art, but how to think about it. We talked about planning, setting up, and even the all-important skill of occupying yourself while waiting for paint to dry.
Their main project? Painting adorable ceramic piggy banks—one shaped like a turtle and the other like an owl. 🐢🦉💜
They didn’t realize how many steps were involved in an art project like this! So far, we’ve only completed the first few:
✅ Dust, clean, and dry the ceramic
✅ Apply a primer layer and let it dry
✅ Choose a color palette
The hardest part? Waiting for paint to dry! I personally like to keep a second project on hand for moments like these, so I used this as an opportunity to teach them more with watercolors.

We taped down their watercolor paper and explored wet-on-wet techniques. This was a great chance to teach them about letting go of strict plans and embracing the unexpected—an important lesson in both art and life!

For now, they’re soaking up the sunshine and enjoying outdoor play. We’ll continue the ceramic painting tomorrow, and I can’t wait to see what they create with these cuties! 🥰
